It had been a harrowing adventure, experimenting with Lucca's gate key, but it had born fruit. They rediscovered the Epoch, Lucca's flying time machine. They had to fight off monsters to recover it, but between the two of them, Rock and Lucca had managed to get it back to the mansion. She'd spent some time trying to repair it, but now it was ready once more for its maiden voyage into the past! Or future! One of those things! At least that's what Rock learned when he arrived at Lucca's workshop that day, bringing along some coffee and a sandwich for when he inevitably found out she forgot to eat. "Lucca?" he called out as he edged the door open. "How's it going in here?"

"Hey Rock!" Says a phantom voice from under the hood of a ship, along with a waving hand. She straightens up and hops off of her perch.

"It's going great! I think I have the temporal capacitor almost back in perfect shape! I had to improvise with the crystals, because they're kind of hard to find out here, but--is... that's a sandwich?"

Looks like you anticipated the lack of lunch correctly.

Rock loved being right. He held out the sandwich and coffee for her to take, looking over the ship. It was in FAR better shape than the last time he saw it, that was certain. "So it's almost ready to fly and time jump again?" he asked excitedly. "What are you using for the crystals? What kind of crystals DOES it use?" he added, fascinated by the machine since the first time he saw it. Before the incident, the Epoch had been a source of fun and excitement. He missed their little trips...

"It's a particular kind of stone you'd only really find in my world. I had to improvise a substitute, and supercharge some quartz with magic. That was pretty draining work."

Good thing coffee restores MP, then. She takes a long sip,and gestures to the last, faintly glowing spike of crystal on the worktable nearby.

"The result SHOULD handle the intense flux shifts inherent in time travel. Or it could, you know, blow up. But by my calculations, that's a very remote possibility."

"I'm sure your calculations are fine," Rock replied. He at least hoped they were. He was reasonably sure she was right. "At any rate, I'm guessing that means soon you'll be ready to take it on a test ride?" he asked curiously. He leaned over to examine the glowing crystal, eyes scanning the energy output it was giving with fascination. He hadn't before come this close to the inner workings of the Epoch. He knew robots that could manipulate time, and he'd even seen time travellers before. But the technology was still so new to him.

"You bet! We should be able to jump through time and everything. We... might even be able to go home." She hazards, her voice low and thoughtful. "--I know I said that about the Gate Key, but this might be different."

Rock knew better than to get his hopes up. If the gate key couldn't get them home, he wasn't sure what chance the Epoch had, even whether or not it could take them ANYWHERE. But that didn't matter so much to him. "Whether it does or not, it's at least a step in the right direction, isn't it?" he asked with a smile.

"...Probably." He'll find her looking at him thoughtfully, as she says this.

"--Anyway, can you help me install the last of these? Then we'll be good to go!"

Rock was ever the optimist. He refused to accept that things were hopeless. If this worked, and they could travel to other times, then surely they could find some way to use that to get them closer to their home worlds! He smiled broadly, going to help heft up the crystals she'd set up to be installed. "All right then! Just show me where they need to go," he replied, shifting right into dutiful lab assistant mode.
