It had been a harrowing adventure, experimenting with Lucca's gate key, but it had born fruit. They rediscovered the Epoch, Lucca's flying time machine. They had to fight off monsters to recover it, but between the two of them, Rock and Lucca had managed to get it back to the mansion. She'd spent some time trying to repair it, but now it was ready once more for its maiden voyage into the past! Or future! One of those things! At least that's what Rock learned when he arrived at Lucca's workshop that day, bringing along some coffee and a sandwich for when he inevitably found out she forgot to eat. "Lucca?" he called out as he edged the door open. "How's it going in here?"

"You are planning to travel through time. Yet there is much to be considered when doing so. I trust you have taken the proper precautions." The tone in it was eerily similar to his prior self.

"Like what?" Rock asked. "It's been pretty easy before." He wasn't quite sure how to respond to that, since Lucca knew more about this sort of thing than he did. He was content to defer to the expert on these matters.

"Consider the consequences of every action. Ensure that even motions you undertake towards salvation cannot backfire." He brushed off the irony. "Additionally, familiarity with language and customs will ensure your safety."

"...It, uh, may be a little late for that," Rock commented. He's had experience dealing with time travel and the effects it could have on the present, and his imagination briefly went to Quint, before pushing the thought out of his mind. To say nothing of Lucca's own experiences changing her own personal timeline.

"...when did you go?" Cyrus asked cautiously.

[megabuster]

"It's a little complicated," he said simply. "It's not something I'd like to talk about... But Lucca and I have gone on a few trips together before the moon crashed, and everything went fine!"

"Tell me." It wasn't a request.

[megabuster]

"Well... One time we went back in time to the age of the dinosaurs," he explained. "Lucca had been there a while ago and wanted to show it off to me. It was really exciting!"

"And what did you do?" It was a familiar scenario in science fiction, travelers to that era altering the future, and it had captivated him in his youth.

[megabuster]

"Hm? Well, we hung out with her friend Ayla. She's a cave-woman! She was really nice, actually! We fought some Reptites... That's about it!"

Also they made out a lot. And got chased by a T-rex. But Cyrus didn't need to know that.

Humans in the age of dinosaurs? This boy had to be mistaken. "Resurrected dinosaurs...that was not possible until the past fifty years. Far after the stone age and the rise of homo sapiens."

"Well, to be fair, it WAS the past for Lucca's world," Rock replied. "History must have unfolded differently in her world, my world, AND your world."

Perhaps. The universe was vast...

"I would be interested to know the evolutionary biology there. Additionally, to know if the dinosaurs died out, and if so, why, or if they simply continued to evolve."

[megabuster]

"Those are probably better questions for Lucca," Rock replied. "I just got a bit of a taste of her world's history, but there's still a lot I don't know."

"There is always much for us to learn, no matter where we roam, what worlds we experience..." Cyrus seemed to zone out for a moment before continuing. "Everything, every different path, is full of an immeasurable number of alternate possibilities. That is why time travel is dangerous, cannot be done casually."

"Well, yeah," Rock said. "I know that. But a little sightseeing can't be that harmful, can it?"
