Everyone was still getting their bearings in the new world, dealing with the many strange and fantastic surroundings. In that situation, a teenager with a piece of paper in her hand may go unnoticed. And she had been, which is why she started going up to people.

"Excuse me," she asked, "I'm looking for a place called Smash Academy. It's supposed to be here, right?"

"Most people are, I'm learning," she said. "I'm from a world with humans and animals like me. But that's another matter. Sorry, you're not gonna find what you're looking for here, but you might as well make yourself at home anyway. No idea when you'll be able to leave."

Huh? Couldn't she just turn around and go back the way she came in? Eh, no matter. There were more important things at hand. "No way am I gonna leave when you guys need help! What are you working on right now? And can I help?"

Wave raised her eyebrow. "Seriously? I'm lugging equipment back to the workroom. We've got a lot of tech that needs upkeep, and the mansion doesn't have any power. If you wanna help, here, you can grab this for me," she said, offering her the box.

"Of course!" Rene took the box, setting it atop her head with one hand. "Lead the way!"

Glad that she didn't have to carry it anymore, but still a bit weirded out by the new arrival, Wave shrugged and started to lead the way in. "You always this chipper?" she asked.

"Most of the time. I love meeting new people too, so that helps." As she walked, Rene looked around, taking in the new sights. It wasn't a school, but she could teach stuff anyway.

"Right..." Was she for real???

"So, what the heck can you do?" she asked. "Any skills that might be useful around here?"

"Well, I'm good at cleaning, shooting, aaaand I guess soccer too but that's not really useful right now."

"Cleaning, huh?" Wave asked. "Then you're just in time. This place is a total dump... We could use a few more hands."

"Good!" Rene was weirdly enthusiastic about the concept. "I'll get right on it after this!"

"You are REALLY taking this in stride," Wave said. "How are you so cool with all this?"

"I don't really know! I guess I'm just used to dealing with a wide variety of people. Although this is a bit outside of what I've seen..." Rene said as she shifted the box around.

"Not just that. I mean with the whole 'being stuck in another dimension' bit. How the heck are you just... okay with knowing that?"

It kind of struck a nerve with Wave. When she first arrived, it took her a while to accept the impossible thought that she had no way to leave... It was something brought back to her by their current predicament. It frustrated her, to have that control taken away from her without her consent.

"Well..." Rene thought for a second. "I guess it hasn't really sunk in. I was planning on a new start in a new place and that's what I'm getting, so..."

Wave took a deep breath. She didn't set out to try and make the newcomer sad. She had to keep reminding herself that. The girl hadn't done anything to her yet, and in fact she had been very helpful. She had to remember that.

"New start, huh? Trouble at home?" she asked, turning to continue leading the way.

"No, not really. Just some big changes. We came out of a big war, and our school was basically forced to close, so we were the last graduating class. I mean, we would have left anyway, because we were graduating..." She shrugged. "It felt different though, knowing we were going to be IT. Like we were leaving behind a ghost building or something."

Wave was silent at that. She knew they were probably the last class of Smash Academy, but to lose one's home to a war... That was still a terrible fate. She didn't know how to respond to that, so she simply quietly said, "Sorry to hear that."

"It's ok. We came out on top in the end." Rene smiled. "I don't regret going."

"At least you're not gonna find a lot of that," Wave replied.

When they finally arrived, Wave took the box from her. "I've got it from here," she said. "...Thanks. Hope you find what you're looking for here."

"No problem!" Rene wanted to ask if she was needed further, but the last part said otherwise. "If you need any more help next time you see me, let me know!"
