Rene hung the last of the party decorations over the door and quickly put the ladder away. The tables were set with various edibles, the curtains were crisp and ironed, the paper decorations were festive and cute, and the year was about to change.

2017 though? What a strange number. She wondered what their calendar was based on. No matter, a celebration was always a good time.

Hmph. Another party? She could live with that. But at least it was a chance to get some free food, even if she wasn't all that into mingling. Maybe someone would be willing to give her a kiss at midnight.

"HEY WAVE!"

Don't worry, Blaze, it's your best pain in the tailfeathers friend here to cheer you up.

"Hey! I was wondering when you were going to show up!"

"Oh, it's you," she said, seemingly unimpressed by his arrival. But perhaps secretly grateful that someone thought to come talk to her? If that was the case, she didn't seem to be interested in admitting anything. "Well, it's a party, right? I think it's expected I'd have to be here," she commented. "Shouldn't say I'm surprised to see YOU here."

"Nah, I never miss a party! Or a soft-target event that has a remote chance of being attacked. Or any landmark point in time that might herald a monster made completely of darkness or something. You know how it goes; you gotta stay ahead of the game."

He takes a drink of his punch.

"But if anyone asks, I'm here for the dancing and the snacks."

Wave smirked at his comments, leaning a little closer. "And let's not forget an excuse to make out with your kitty, hm?" she asked teasingly.

"We don't need a party to do THAT." He retorts with a smirk, not drawing back. "All you have to do is look for the fireworks."

Wave didn't pull back either, the smirk never leaving her face. "Really now~" she commented. "You seem pretty confident in your abilities. Got some magic touch I don't know about?" she teased.

"Why? You wanna find out?"

He knows what she's doing, sort of; he knows at least that, like everything else about her, this is a challenge, and not one that he's going to back down from.

The last thing she SHOULD be doing is provoking this. She had her own love life to think about. Well, such as it was and as non-existent as it was. She'd made enough foolish decisions, and clearly she wasn't done making them.

"That depends," she said with a challenging smirk. "You offering?" It was like a game of chicken, in a way.
