While he hadn't found his brother, or anyone else he knew for that matter, Papyrus came to the conclusion that some sort of magic had run amok and he had gotten teleported somewhere. Probably. He was glad to see the others trapped with him were making the best out of their situation and cleaning up the place, and making sure everyone got fed.

The forest bothered him, though. Perhaps it was monster sense, or common sense, but it didn't seem very safe. While he would surely have no trouble handling any sort of danger, he wasn't so sure about the other residents. Something had to be done.

Ideally, manned sentry stations would have been the best, but, he would need Undyne to appoint sentries to begin with. A fence would have to do. Bone magic is perfect, not just for attacks, but for building sturdy things as well. Papyrus walked along the line of trees, making long femur type bones pop up out of the earth and appear horizontally across them. It was slow going, as, such tall bones took more magic to make solid than normal size. He also had to use some rope he found to tie the horizontal bones in place at their ends. He was quite cheerful as he worked, humming as he did. Hopefully someone would surely come compliment him on his brilliant idea soon!

As Rene approached, she thought the builder was someone in a skeleton costume. But as she got closer...

...well. A walking skeleton. That was whistling, despite the lack of lungs or lips.

That was now the second strangest thing she'd seen since she gotten there, surpassing "space ape" but still below "girl that turns into fire-breathing dragon". But not by much.

Papyrus spotted the Rene as he looked up from his work.

"HELLO THERE, HUMAN! HAVE YOU COME TO ASSIST IN BUILDING OF FENCES?"

"Uh...uh...I um...I could..." she stammered, looking him up and down to try to find some sort of sense in how he was up and walking around and talking. "W...ouldn't it make more sense to build this out of wood or rocks?"

"ONLY IF MY FANTASTIC MAGIC WASN'T AVAILABLE! NOTHING IS STRONGER THAN MY BONES! WELL, PERHAPS UNDYNE'S SPEARS! NYEH-HEH-HEH!" he laughs at his own joke, it doesn't seem to matter if she gets it or not.

Spears? Was someone running around with spears? She hoped this person would lend a hand to hunting. "That sounds like a challenge to me," she smirked.

Blue might have spent a while watching this skeleman do his thing, partially wondering if she should give him a hand and partially wondering how long it would take Jock and Jolt to dismantle all this hard work. And also: a skeleman.

Eventually her curiosity got the better of her and she trotted over to where he was tying two bones together.

"Are you trying to keep things out or keep us in?"

"WHY, TO KEEP EVIL FORCES OUT, OF COURSE! HUMAN CAN BE QUITE FRAGILE, AND THERE ARE YOUNG MONSTERS HERE AS WELL! I WOULDN'T BE ANY SORT OF EX-SENTRY IF I COULDN'T KEEP THE INNOCENTS AROUND ME SAFE!"

"That's very noble of you."

It was. It was very noble.

"... Where are you getting all of these bones?"

"BUT OF COURSE! WERE I ANY MORE NOBLE, I WOULD BE AN ARISTOCRAT!" oh, you stroked the ego...

"WHY, I'M CREATING THEM WITH MAGIC, OF COURSE!"

Mesprit floated closer to the strange structure surrounding the building. This was... odd-looking.

And out constructing it is a weird, pale moving skeleton thing. ...In a cape.

"Um..." Her tails twitched with curiosity. "Mister, what is this fence-like object? Why are you building it?"

"IT'S A FENCE TO KEEP ANY SORT OF EVIL OUT, OF COURSE!" he seems...pretty proud of it.

"What makes you think there's evil here? We're pretty isolated. It's unnerving, in fact.

"I'm Mesprit, by the way. I'm a Pokemon -- the sprite of emotion."

"BUT THERE COULD BE EVIL OUT THERE! THE UNKNOWN CAN BE TERRIFYING! CHILDREN AND YOUNG MONSTERS SUCH AS YOURSELF SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SUCH THINGS!"

Garrett happened to be out in the forest that day. His arrow cache was running a little low after the attack of the killer Valentine bears, so he was out scrounging for crystals. Once he was satisfied with the bunch of moss and water crystals he found, he decided to head back. Except.

Now there was a wall in the way.

A wall made of bones.

Creepy.

Garrett stared up at the fence, sighed, and reached into his bag for a rope arrow. Well, he's climbed over weirder things.

Garrett will find his arrow shot down with spare bones.

"SCALING THE SAFETY FENCE IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN!" Papyrus appears!

"USE THE GATE INSTEAD!" he points out the said gate, just a short distance away.

Garrett can do nothing while his very difficult to make arrows are broken into tiny useless pieces. SKELETONNNN.

He narrows his eyes at Papyrus. He still has a few rope arrows, after all.

"Challenge accepted." And then he dashes off to another part of the fence. Catch him if you can.

AAAAAAAAAUGH! HOW DARE YOU!!!!!!" He's pretty quick, and keeping up for now, though still on the opposite side of the fence. He isn't attacking, either.

Some people see a wall in a situation like this. Sonic sees an obstacle course.

There the hedgehog is, hopping from one upright femur to the next and occasionally grinding between the posts on rope-tied bone. He has no intention of breaking the fence yet; curiosity is his motivator, here. After all, when one finds huge bones sticking out of the ground, one has to wonder who's behind it.

"HEY YOU! THIS FENCE IS NOT FOR TRAINING PURPOSES AT ALL! COME DOWN FROM THERE AT ONCE!"

"Heeeeey, bone guy!" Sonic calls back like Papyrus is an old friend, while at the same time completely ignoring his admonition for now. He parks his little fuzzy butt on one of the posts and leans forward on his knee to hold a conversation down to him.

"I thought you might have somethin' to do with this fence, somehow! Call it a hunch. How're you doing that, anyway?"

Papyrus stomps in anger. "YOU WILL ADDRESS ME AS THE GREAT PAPYRUS! NOT BONE GUY!" Because clearly, that's the correct response.

Blaze stared at the field of bones that had seemingly sprung up out of nowhere, jaw dropped. She didn't know what was stranger. A forest of bones, or the skeleton in a cape that seemed to be conjuring them.

"That... Is a lot of bones..."

"BUT OF COURSE! THESE MANY ARE NEEDED TO BUILD A PROPER FENCE!"

"Rather than ask you why you're building a fence made of bones, I think I'd much rather ask... HOW are you doing this?"

"MAGIC, OBVIOUSLY." Because that's the proper answer. "DON'T YOU HAVE YOUR OWN MAGIC DEVELOPED, YOUNG MONSTER?"
