Stargazing

What: The mother of the cosmos doesn't know this sector of space... Time to fix that.
Where: The roof of the mansion

Rosalina was put off by this place for many reasons, not the least of which being because she knew space. She knew the stars. She'd helped RAISE most of the stars. But here... Nothing was familiar to her, not even the sky. To one such as her, it was a most unsettling experience. She longed for her children. She longed for her home on the Comet Observatory. She'd never been apart from them for so long...

While the Lumas with her were sleeping (because even baby stars needed their rest), Rosalina set out for the roof and the best vantage point she could find. She took her telescope with her, the only thing she had brought with her from the academy, and one of her most treasured possessions. And with it, she looked out over the starry sky. If she could not recognize the stars, she would just have to chart them.

"I could have stopped it." This was said as simply as any fact. "My aim was to reshape the universe. To create peace by eliminating those elements that cause strife. I had the universe in my hands and..."

He stepped back, away from her touch. "Though I've realized that I couldn't have controlled it, only brought it into being."

"Many had plans to stop the moon," she reminded him. "Bowser even tried to turn himself into a giant. There is no telling whether your plans would have succeeded any more than his. Dwelling on things you have no control over will not help any."

"No, I..." Another step back in case she tried to bring her hand back. "I tried before. Twice before, and each time I was stopped by outside forces. If they hadn't intervened I would have brought forth a new creation."

"So you mentioned," she said. "I have no desire to debate the merits of your drive to reshape creation a second time. I will simply say that we are all powerless in the face of this situation..."

"That doesn't matter. Powerless...I doubt we will ever know."

Though he relaxed a bit in his posture. "Do you believe the old world was truly destroyed? Even simply the area? Or do you believe we're still being lied to?"

She shook her head. "I wish I knew... I've witnessed the end of worlds, the end of the universe, before. And I know miraculous things can and do happen in this life. But I simply don't know."

"The end of the universe..." He shivered, tightening up again. "What was that like?"

"...Frightening," she explained. "There was fear, as expected, but a sense of finality. All things must end... But it turned out that it was not the universe's time to fade away completely then."

A feeling of dread filled him. "...I should go," he murmured, more to himself. "I can't think about this right now."

Rosalina nodded. "I apologize if I've upset you," she said simply. "Take care."
