Dinner Date!

Who: Jolt and Riwane
What: Jolt makes some dinner for a hungry chayzard
Where: Picnic out by the lake

Things were looking up for the people at the mansion, but in other ways things were looking gloomy. Char was gone, and so was Jon. Two people that Jolt and Riwane cared about. Jolt was feeling a bit down, but even in that mood he worried about Riwane too. She took it hard when Jon wasn't feeling like himself. This had to be rough on her too. He wanted to put a smile on both their faces, and he had just the thing for it. 

The way to Jolt's heart was through his stomach, and nothing said good times better to him than some meat. And after visiting with Jock, he knew meat was in plentiful supply in the kitchen. He spent all day cooking and preparing it, and after dropping a note off on Riwane's door inviting her out to the woods, he hauled out a blanket, plates, glasses, and plenty of good eats as he set up a nice picnic lunch for them by the edge of the lake.

Riwane was hesitant to go out. Sure it had been from Jolt and sure she knew she could use the company and seeing him but her heart just wasn't in it. However, even with the hesitation, she figured she wanted to see him more than not and opted to put on some lax, comfy clothes and set out. She might have been late, but the rustling of leaves nearby signaled that someone was approaching Jolt's spot, if he was still there.

And still there, he was. Everything was set up. A blanket, plates, glasses (of water, sadly), and a large covered dish. But the scent wafting from underneath the lid was unmistakeable. He grinned broadly when she arrived. "Hey, you made it!" he said happily. "Have a seat, you're gonna love this!"

Let the mood lightening begin.

Riwane had leaned against a tree, arms crossed and looking over before she was addressed. His usual enthusiasm, let alone his face brought at least the faintest smile to her face and she shook her head. "Now whut do ya think yer doin' sparkbutt? Ya didn't hafta go an' do all a this fur me now." But she knew there'd be no point in convincing him otherwise and slowly made her way over.

Jolt smirked playfully, reaching for the cover of his serving tray. "Ah, but who's gonna help me finish off this meal I made?"

He lifted the lid, and presented to her a bevy of mouth watering meats, cooked to perfection. He had any cuts he could get his hands on, enough variety for the two carnivores. He even scrounged up some barbecue sauce for them!

"Besides. We haven't had anything like a date in too long, and I thought that's something we should definitely fix!"

Riwane smiled and shook her head as she crossed her arms. "'M pretty sure ya can eat this whole kebable by yerself." she chuckled a bit, her tail moving a bit more animatedly as she looked at the feast.

"Ain't gunna lie though, this looks mighty apetizin' fur sure." she licked her lips involuntarily, her instincts kicking in.

"Then it's sure lucky I'm in a sharing mood, huh?" he laughed, flashing her a big bright smile. He had his mind set to his task here, and he wasn't accepting defeat!

"Then why don't you grab a seat and eat with me, huh?" he offered, patting the blanket next to him.

"I guess so," knowing her refusing wouldn't go anywhere with him, and the fact that there was still a part of her that yearned for a more fun time - one that wasn't filled with sorrow at the moment - she sat down and sighed a bit but smiled.

"Looks like ya went all out huh?"

"When do I NOT?" he asked with a chuckle. "Put your all into everything you do. That's what I live by!"

He offered her a plate. "Now dig in, don't want all this food to go to waste!"

"Seems our all wan't enuff..." It was more of a somber comment to herself than anything, but she didn't seem to have noticed she blurted that out vocally. Looking over she finally smiled and seemed to visibly attempt to shake away the bad feels and focus on the food. "When has food ever gone ta waste 'round us?"

"Maybe not, but that's never a sign to pack it in," Jolt replied, grabbing a steak for his own plate. "All it means is we gotta train and prepare so that next time, we'll wreck whatever challenge is in our way. How I've always lived my life, and I'm not about to stop now."

He chuckled. "There's the attitude I wanna see!"

Riwane looked a bit taken aback when he responded to what she thought were her thoughts. After a moment though, she chose not to comment on it and focus on the food and smile.

"Can't say I ain't hungry, thanks fur the food hon, don't mind if I dig in." And without really waiting on another go ahead, she grabbed some of the food and started making herself a plate.

Jolt didn't expect her to wait for his go-ahead, and was happy to see her helping herself. "No trouble at all," he reminded her. "It's worth it if I can lighten your spirits even a little bit."

He helped himself and dug in hungrily, and BOY was he hungry for some meat. It took a while to get to this point, but the mansion was finally able to eat.

Riwane was fairly silent as she ate, almost as if her mind was just somewhere else completely. This was actually very different than her usual attitude during these kinds of outtings but Jolt would probably know already why.

After a beat and a lot of meat, Riwane smiled over at Jolt. "Thanks, this' nice."

He knew full well why Riwane was so upset. Jon had gone missing some time ago... Maybe he got to go home. Whatever the reason, he wasn't here, and Riwane felt his absence greatly. He was very important to her, and he knew it. There was nothing he could say or do to help her get over those strong feelings, because when she felt, she felt deeply. The best he could do was try to support her and be there for her. It may not have been enough, but he was determined to try.

"No problem at all," he said, flashing her a smile. "Figured we both deserved a treat today." He wasn't going to broach the subject of her missing trainer. If she wanted to talk about it, he'd wait for her to bring it up.

"Sum treat," She chuckled shaking her head. "Looks like ya raided tha darn cooler. Ya did leave sum fur tha rest rite?" Though, right now she could live with them having taken just a bit more for themselves. Like he said, she really needed a treat at the moment.

"Don't worry, I'm not depriving any one of anything," Jolt explained. "Between all the hunting we've been doing, not to mention Max and Gordon bringing in the bacon, we're in good shape for once! It's nice to not feel like we're gonna starve any day now," he added with a chuckle. "So don't worry about it. Eat to your heart's content! I worked hard on all this!"

Riwane thought for a few but soon smiled big and nodded. "I'm glad ta hear there's more an' more positivity goin' 'round. Everyone was... pretty lost when we all gots here. But I think things are picking up..." It seemed like she looked a bit hopeful for a moment but soon let that go and shook her head, a smile popping back up. "Well, guess I dun gots ta worry 'bout others goin' hungry so," she grabbed some more food and went to town on it.

"Exactly my point," Jolt said. "We're sticking together, working hard, and we're gonna come out on top! This place is even getting kinda liveable, and that ain't nothing!"

"It never was a bad place to begin with... it's actually a pretty nice surrounding, manshun aside, reminds me of home. I think the blow came from the revelation, at least to me... And--" She cut it off, but Jolt could guess she was hurting from the people missing still, not just Jon.

"Anyways, we'll make it work fur sure!"

Jolt shifted over to slide his arm around her. The cutoff told him she could use a hug, stat. And he was ready to oblige.

"I know what you mean, I really do. But everything will be just fine. We're not gonna be here forever, after all. But for now, we just gotta make the most of it. And I think we're doing that pretty well so far!"

"How can ya be so sure?" she looked at him, searching for answers she knew he didn't have. But even so, she didn't turn the hug away and instead rested against it. "I dun mind it here I jus.... There's so many folk missin'..."

His arm tightened around her. "Because I'm not giving up until we're reunited," he told her. "Char's one of the ones missing too, you know. And the rest of my team in Viridian City... I don't care how long it takes, I'm not giving up hope."

Riwane looked a bit hurt, of course she knew Char was missing, Jolt already knew about her feelings for Char so the fact that multiple she cared so much about were gone or missing was part of her sullenness. Even so, she kept her gaze averted for now. "Y-yeah, I s'pose. We'll make it work an' git everyone back together." Though she didn't sound very positive about that.

"We gotta be strong, for us, and for everyone," he told her. "They're depending on us, and I for one am not letting them down!"

"I know..." She let out a small sigh and shrugged. "Thanks fur this hun, I needed it."

[rivalthunderbolts]

"Hey, it's what I'm here for," he told her, hugging her tighter. "We gotta stick together, after all."

[blazebottom]

"I mean it..." she responded a bit more sullenly, her body lax against his as if he could just ragdoll her. "If it weren't fur you an' Rio still bein' 'round... dunno whut I'd do."

Jolt slid his other arm around her too, to hug her closer to him. "Hey... I love ya. You're not getting rid of me THAT easily," he reassured her.

"I hope not..." It was more of a small statement to herself and again seemed more of an aloud thought not meant to have been said and still she simply leaned against him and closed her eyes.

He didn't need to answer. His actions spoke for him, as he held her with both arms, just letting her cuddle against him. She could stay there for as long as she needed.
